The GEM system's discs do not saw through metal with serrated teeth like a manual can-opener type ring cutter; rather the system uses the unique abrasive qualities of the two distinct types of discs, coupled with a low torque handpiece, to remove subsequent layers of material - much like the action of fine sandpaper or an emery board.
Because the system relies on abrasion, it's critical that the appropriate disc be selected and that the proper technique be used; the proper technique can best be described as:?

Options:
- Choose Diamond Discs for: Titanium, Platinum, Tungsten, Cobalt, Stainless Steel, Gold Filled/Plated, Silver Plated, Ceramics, Glass, Jade, and Stone
- Choose Carbide Discs for: 10k or greater gold and fine/Sterling silver
Note:
While the GEM ring cutter is rated for, and will cut Tungsten and ceramics with a diamond blade, it will take much longer and may reduce the overall life of the cutting blade. Due to the extreme hardness of Tungsten and ceramic we recommend using the Ring Cracker for tungsten and ceramic rings.
